Decent homes works
Scope of works
Since 2006 PiLON, the refurbishment and building specialist, has been working in partnership with their client Apollo on a number of refurbishment projects in Slough.
A major refurbishment project on houses in the Britwell area of Slough, 98% of which were occupied and the remainder being void properties. Decent Homes work comprising of kitchen & bathroom refurbishment by PiLON with central heating & plumbing works and electrical rewires completed by other contractors began in 2006 with up to eight full properties opened every day. Over 40 properties were completed in 2006, 190 properties in 2007, 535 properties in 2008, 450 properties in 2009 and 251 properties in 2010.
Bogdan Cantaragiu and Horea Iurian from PiLON supervised the work of 21 skilled operatives on site. Using regular checks they ensured that the quality of work was of the highest standard.
Regular specific Toolbox Talks – a PiLON specialty - helped ensure that all operatives were fully aware of their Health and Safety responsibilities. Every operative was issued with the PiLON Operatives Health and Safety Handbook, which contains information regarding procedures, site rules and safety guidelines.
PiLON was also involved, with Apollo as the main contractor, in the refurbishment of the kitchen of a local Community Centre, the Britwell Parish Centre. The project consisted of the removal of furniture, plumbing, tiling, adjustments to new furniture and small-scale repairs. Apollo supplied the materials for the job and PiLON’s Bogdan Cantaragiu and Horea Iurian managed the project.
The following year PiLON worked with Apollo on the decoration and painting of a sports centre for the Family Welfare Association. All the materials were provided by the client, and PiLON sent two operatives to support the work required.
Leeane Murphy, community investment officer, said: "It was hard work but the team had great fun transforming the room. The crèche looked as good as new when finished and the FWA volunteers were really pleased.”
In the spring of 2010, PiLON were invited to work with Apollo on the kitchen renovation of the Merry Makers Community Hall in Slough. The work involved plumbing, tiling, decorating, adjustments of new furniture and small repairs.
